Thought-sea
Rushing forward
rough
against the rocks of rational thinking
anxiety crashes
spraying panic in all directions
undercurrents
of swirling emotion
overwhelm logic
and then
reasoning pulls back the wave
revealing the sandy calm
where bliss builds castles
with wide moats running round
bucket-shaped towers
planted with pennants
remembering to pull
up the drawbridges when the flags
waiver in the wind and
theres a rush in the distance
waiting
waiting
for the next
wave

This particular poem I wrote at a time when I was experiencing panic attacks as part of a nervous breakdown. I wanted to describe and share what that particular experience was and I found a metaphor worked best. Not everyone experiences these kinds of mood “crashes” but reading another person’s feelings on the topic can help anyone empathize a little more. I find it is always good to learn about another person’s experience to open up your own too.

Definitely one of your better pieces.
