It is important to know
It is important to know
that it’s not really real
until it’s in black ink
on paper
with a signature
(or two?)
And even then
it’s only as real
as the paper
it’s on
which could be lost
(or destroyed?)
And still it’s not really anything
if it can be
annulled
or avoided
(or ratified?)
And so, really
all there is to hold onto
is hope.

I wrote this poem at a time when I was feeling betrayed on a very basic level and felt nothing and no one could really be trusted any more.
Any comments on how I could improve this piece would be appreciated
